What is BJJ?
This traditional martial art was adapted from Japanese Jujutsu and Judo
by modern martial arts pioneers Mitsuyo Maeda and Carlos Gracie to
develop a stronger grappling element. This necessary evolution came more
than 100 years ago with the knowledge that the odds are highly in favor
of any fight becoming a ground fight at some point. The reality is it
is very rare for a fight to stay strictly a standing battle, and
ground-fighting skills are likely to save your life if attacked and
allow you to stop the fight by disabling your attacker. Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu was also developed with martial artists in mind who are of a
smaller stature, making it the perfect fit for self-defense, especially
